About the Technique

Everything I do is designed to help my students become the best musicians they can possibly be. For me, that means teaching to vocalists of all levels.

I teach singing as a way of giving back for all the amazing gifts music has brought me.

The vocal technique I teach completely transformed my voice years ago. It also happens to be the same technique used by more than 100 Grammy winners. It’s called Speech Level Singing and was pioneered by Seth Riggs, “Voice Coach to the Stars”—boasting Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder and the Red Hot Chili Peppers as clients.

Here’s an exclusive Bonus: Download our FREE Video with 10 SLS Techniques to improve your singing voice.

But I teach this technique because I know it’s the simplest, fastest and most effective way of getting you on the stage and performing, no matter what level you are!

Speech Level Singing and my certifying organization, the Institute for Vocal Advancement, believe in achieving a balanced registration from the bottom to the top of your voice while keeping a resting larynx.

That means hitting high notes without falsetto, singing more powerfully and finding your true voice.

This amazing singing technique can be applied to any genre of music.

Here’s how it works:

When you’re speaking there is no tension or manipulation in your voice because your intention is to communicate clearly. Singing should be the same!

Speech Level Singing aims to help you sing across your entire range without any tension or strain.

With exercises and lessons custom tailored to your specific voice, we will get you singing higher and more beautifully than you thought possible.

    Hi Matt,
I am 77years of age. I use TO
SiNg alot when I was young, but my singing voice has changed to the point of not being able reach the higher NOTES. I go flat, my voice squeaks and breaks aLOT. I so love to be able to sing again. I’ve never had training. Love your style of training.
I live in New ZEALAND and have begun PRACTICING the exercises you have given in your vedeo.

Hey Mary, thanks for your message.
Yes, the voice changes as we age.

But the good news is that if you keep practicing the exercises, your voice will stay more flexible and functional.

Hi, I’m 17, I’m from Chile, it has always been my dream to learn to sing, but I’ve never had the chance, now I feel like I’m too old to start, since I know that they started as children, it would help me to enter here, if I know almost nothing of singing?

    • by Matt Ramsey Posted July 30, 2020 6:06 pm

Hey Giuliana, everyone can learn to sing.
There are many singers that began learning when they were older than 17 and still achieved a great career.

THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR ANSWERING! : D I REALLY ENCOURAGE me. MY FAMILY HAS ALWAYS discourage ME WITH THIS, EVEN BEFORE I BEGIN anyting, BECAUSE THEY TELL ME THAT, how am i GOING TO DEDICATE myself to SOMETHING that, I CANNOT DO, if I not was BORN FOR that,
neither in the place nor in the family to dedicate myself to the music, But NOW IT DOESN’T MATTER What they say, that I will not delay my dreams any longer, I will try hard until I see them fulfilled.

greetings! and forgive my english from google translator haha

I’m 16 years old from Nigeria, I’ve been wishing to sing while I was at the age of 8 but I couldn’t due to my bad voice my music teacher told me to quit but I had no choice than to leave the academy it makes me feel sad when I see OTHERS Singing, but since I’ve watching your videos it inspires me to do more. Now my voice is now better than before.
    Thanks
